The Consumers Cash Car made numerous stops throughout West Michigan this past summer, engaging more than 2,000 contestants, June through September.

Anyone who entered the Cash Car left a winner by answering financial trivia questions. Cash prizes were awarded onsite by Consumers cash cabbie, Rob Johnson, and marketing intern, Brittany Verner. Denominations varied, but those who “entered” the Cash Car could potentially win up to $50.

Says Johnson, “We were amazed by the fun members had answering our questions. Of course they LOVED walking away with the cash!”

Students could win cash and prizes at the Cash Car during Bronco Bash 2012.

The Cash Car idea was born a year ago right before WMU’s Bronco Bash. A car was fabricated from steel, and refurbished over the winter with the recognizable Cash Car insignia. Stops over the spring and summer included all Consumers offices; Arcadia and Woods Lake Elementary Schools (where prizes were given in lieu of cash); Kalamazoo County Relay for Life; Tour de Taylor; MVP Athletic Club in Holland; Taste of Kalamazoo; Consumers Sunburst Run; and most recently, Bronco Bash.

“The offices were excited for our visits too,” adds Johnson. “Members definitely had something out of the ordinary to remember after stopping by.”

The Credit Union Journal featured the Cash Car this month by highlighting its travels:

“The Cash Car is modeled after “Cash Cab,” a popular cable TV program where unsuspecting passengers can win money by correctly answering trivia questions while en route to their destination. Rather than a moving vehicle, Consumers’ Cash Car is a seat on a trailer, and participants that answer correctly have the opportunity to draw from the “Cash Cooler” and can win $5 to $50.
